Creating a home gym

A year and half ago my husband received PCS orders to a new duty station. We were excited for the move. Not only would we be closer to home but, we would be living in the South!!! I was super pumped for it. I knew we would be moving to a much much smaller city. And I would not be able to continue our family Y membership. I was honestly very sad about that. At our local Y I had lots of different workout classes to try, child care while I worked out, and classes for my boys to participate in.
The local gyms in our new area were pretty limited and none offered any kind of child care. Who wants to pay for a membership then pay out more money for someone to watch your kiddos so you can go workout. I could have tried and worked out in the evenings but, by the time my husband is home dinner is done and cleaned. Then homework for P. I knew I just wouldn't go.

So I started putting together my own little home gym. Now I find it very difficult to spend money on myself. I will admit I tend to put everyone and their needs above my own needs and wants. But, I know I am a better mom and wife when I exercise and take care of myself. I want to be a good role model for my kids and I want to be around for a very long time. I lost my dad when I was 16. I don't want my kids having to go through something like that, while they are growing up.

When looking for any kind of workout equipment shop around. Check your local yard sale pages, thrift shops, goodwill stores. Don't be afraid to ask family and friends if they have any equipment they aren't using and are willing to sale/trade with you.

Here is what I have in my home gym

Hand weights you can pick up hand weights pretty cheap at wal mart and other super stores.
Kettle Bells are also a great option and you can find adjustable sets. I picked this set up over Christmas with some money I received

Stability Ball again something that is very versatile and you can do lots of different exercises. I found an awesome deal at Wal Mart's online site  and with free site to store shipping it was less then $6.

Ab roller something my bestie suggested I pick up another inexpensive piece of equipment.

When is comes to finding a workout program there are tons of places to look. If you prefer dvd's check Amazon, If you are not sure what you want to do check youtube and pintrest you will find countless workouts videos. Everything from yoga to kickboxing. I also like fitness blender they have a lot of different workouts and you can choose beginner, intermediate, and advance.

What do you have in your home gym?
